Abstract

Five preemergence herbicides were tested for their efficacy on weed control and transplantable seedling production. The results showed that diphenamid at 6.0 and 3.0 kg/ha, trifluralin at 0.5 kg ha nitralin at 0.5 tg/ha and fluchloralin at 1.0 kg/ha applied as pre-sowing incorporated treatments were promising for selective weed control in tobacco seed beds, and interms of tobacco seedling production treatments were com-parable to weed-free control treatment. None of these herbicides showed any phytoto-xicity on sunhemp groundr.ut and sesamum crops succeeding tobacco seed nursery.
