Reaction of some commonly cultivated rice cultivars (Jaya, IR 8, PR 103, PR 106, PR 107, Basmati 370, Palman 579, PR 4141 and Punjab Basmati I) of the Punjab to butachlor; thiobencarb, oxadiazon and pendimethalin applied preemergence at recommended and double the recommended rates was studied in a field experiment for three years during 1981 to 1983. All the herbicides were well tolerated by the cultivars even at double the recommended rates. Herbicides X cultivars interaction for growth and grain yield parameters was non-significant, indicating that the reaction of all the cultivars to herbicides was similar.
