Two field experiments conducted during 1982 and 1983 at Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore, indicated that preemergence application of oxyfluorfen, isopro. turon, oxadiszon, pendimethal in and fluchloral in effectively controlled the major weed Trianthema portulicastrum L. preemergence application of isoproturon at 0.5 kg/ha followed by one late weeding at 30 days has given the highest blackgram grain yield.
In the other experiment conducted during monsoon 1983, isoproturon (0 25 to 0.5O kg/ha) was not selective when the herbicide application was immediately followed by rainfall, whereas preemergence application of oxadiazon (0.5 to 0.75 kg'ha) and peudime-thalin (0.5 to 0.75 kg/ha) are highly selective under such conditions.
