Abstract

Energy dispersal analysis by x-rays of various macrophytes were carried out with the help of Electron Microscope to study the mineral composition of these plants. The results revealed a great variation in the mineral content of the ash of these plants. Among the tested plants sodium content was highest in T. angustata (23.1%), magnesium content was maximum in H.verticillata (11.9%), aluminium (9.6%), silica (16.0%). and calcium (32.3%) content was highest in Chara sp. A pinnata showed the maximum phosphorus (16.7%), whereas sulphur (9.0%) was highest in/. aquatica. Potassium (33.4%) and chlorine (37.0%) were highest in E. crassipes.Significance of these results have been discussed.
