Field experiments were carried out at the Livestock Research Centre of the G.B. Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar, Nainital, during kharif seasons of 1983 and 1984 to evaluate the weed control methods (atrazine at the levels of 0.25, 0.5 and 1.0 kg ai/ha as per-emergence application) under varying levels of nitrogen (0,60 and 120 kg N/ha) on the control of weeds and their consequent effect on growth, nitrogen uptake and forage yield of sorghum crop. Total weed density and dry matter of total weeds were significantly affected by atrazine application. Nitrogen uptake by individual weed as well as total weeds was reduced significantly by atrazine application at all the stages of growth. Green forage yield and dry matter production were significantly affected by application of atrazine and nitrogen levels during both the years.
