A field experiment comprising fourteen treatments was conducted during kharif, 1984 and 1 985 at the farm of Haryana Agricultural University, Rice Research Station, Kau! Application of butachlor and thiobencarb at 1.0 kg/ha 2 days before sowing and 4 days after sowing were found injurious to crop seedlings. Pendimethalin 1.0 kg/ha applied 6 days after sowing and butachlor 0.74 kg'ba 2 days before sowing gave more than 70 per cent weed kill with relatively less crop injury.
