Abstract

A field study conducted during 1984–85 under rice-pulse system in upland condition revealed that 90 percent of the weed population was Echinochloa colonum which reduced the crop yield to the tune of 91 pei-cent. Pre emergence application of pendimethalin 1–25 kg/ha or thiobencarb 1.50 kg/ha on 8th day after sowing followed by one hand weeding on 30th day effeetivcly controlled this grassy weed in rice. These had residual effect on the succeeding pulses only at the highest dose. Fluchloralin 0.75 kg/ha effectively checked the weed population in pulses.
