The allelopathic effects of six weeds on germination and growth of maize and soybean seedlings were studied in the laboratory. The boiled and unboiled extracts of Lantana camara, Eupatoriutn adenophoriiin. Cyperus escitlentus. Ageratum conyzoide:, Sorghum halepense and Echinochlou crusgalli prepared from, whole plant were used. The boiled extract of weeds comparatively had lesser effect on the germination of maize and soybean. The boiled and unboiled extracts of E. adenophorum and A. conyzoides and unboiled extracts of E. crusgalli delayed the germination of both the crops significantly. The leaf development, radicle and coleoptile growth of maize and soybean were significantly inhibited by boiled extracts of E. adenophorum and unboiled extract of E. crusgalli. Boiled extract of Sorghum halepense promote the growth of radicle and coleptile of both the crops.
