Field experiment was conducted during 1984–85 and 1985–86 cropping season to find out efficacy of herbicides in controlling weeds in sugarcane. Twelve treatments were tested in randomised block design. Maximum cane yield was obtained from h;ind weeded treatment which was found statistically at par with the application of atra/ine (2.0 kg/ha pre-em) - dicamba;0.75 L/ha 40 dap), 2, 4-D (1.0 kg/ha) -i- paraquat (0.5 kg/ha) at 20 and 60 dap. atrazine (1.0 kg ha pre-em) - 2, 4-D (1.0 kg, ha) 60 dan, meribuzin (1.0 kg/ha) as pre-em. and Asulox, ihiobencarb and i>oproluron did not prove effective in controlling weeds. On an average, weeds reduced cane yield by 37.07 percent. Effect of herbicides on juice quality was not significant.
