Field investigations to assess the extent of weed management due to weed control methods, nitrogen levels and cropping systems were conducted during kharif seasons of 1982 and 1983 at she Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi. Manual. weeding] asjjwell as Jpresowing soil incorporation of fluchloralin 1,5 kg/ha provided excellent control |of grassy and broad leaved weeds. On an average maximum dose of nitrogen (120 kg/ha)]reduced 61, 163 and 49% sedge population at 20, 40 and 69 day-: after sowing of maize, respectively in comparison to no nitrogen. The corresponding figures were 25, 36 and 27% with regard to grassy weeds. Intercropping of soybean and groundnut recorded lower weed density in comparison to sole maize. Increase in nitrogen level, manual weeding and intercropping with soybean/groundnut boosted grain productivity.
