A field experiment on the productivity and control of weeds in chillies (Pant C) to compare the relative efficacy of Sethoxydim and fluchloralin alone at varied doses and in combination with one hand weeding at 45 daysafter transplanting. In a field experiment conducted at the Horticultural Research Centre of the Govind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar. Uncontrolled weeds reduced the yield of fresh chillies by 75.8 per cent. Preplant incorporation (PPI) of fluchloralin 1kg/ha showed a weed control efficiency of 74.4 per cent. Fluchloralin 1 kg/ha supplemented with one manual hand weeding showed a* minimum weed index of 32. 6′ and gaveminimum weed index (20.6) and a maximum additional yield (29 q/ha), next to weed-free treatment. Sethoxydim 1.5 kg/ha with weeding 45 days recorded maximum weed control efficiency (71.9%) with a weed index of 32.6 and gave an additional yield of 22.7 q/ha red chillies.
