Abstract

A field experiment conducted at the Horticultural Research Centre of the GovindBallabh Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar during 1983 and 1984 showed that pre-andpost emergenceapplicationof metribuzin (0.35+0.50kg/ha) produced tomato yield on par with hand weeding. Metribuzin was more effective when combined with weeding at 30 and 45 days after transplanting. Weed competition reduced yield i>f tomatoes by 42.4, 69.6 and 70.9 percent when it lasted for 15,30 and 45 days from transplanting, respectively.
