A field experiment was carried out tor two seasons during 1987–88 to control Pluchea lanceolata under non-cropped situation. Single application of clopyralid at 0.15 or 0.30 kg/ha, fluroxypyr at 0.50 or 1.00 kg/ha, and repeated application of their low doses during summer (April-August) significantly decreased the dry weight of Pluchea as compared to mechanical cutting or untreated control. Single application of 2,4-D at 0.5 or 1.5 kg/ha or repeated applications at 0.5 kg/ha were significantly inferior to fluroxypyr at 1.0 kg/ha. Addition of 2, 4-D to spray solutions of fluroxypyr or clopyralid had no additional advantage.
The second experiment conducted during winter (Jan-April) showed lhat clopyralid at 0.15 kg/ha applied either once or twice during winter (January-April) was very effiective. Repeated application of 2,4-D (0.4 kg/ha) or fluroxypyr (0.4 kg/ha) also resulted in significant reduction of Pluchea biomass. The re-growth obtained following the cutting of treated plants was also significantly less in these treatments.
