Removal of water hyacinth was done manual ly in four experimental ponds having an area of 18.18 hectares alongwith the other water bodies of experimental area. The expenditure of Rs. 30,828/- was incurred on the removal of water hyacinth. An amount of Rs. 17,466/- was invested on food-fish-culture aftertheiremoval of water hyacinth. A net profit of Rs. 14,683/was realised from the four experimental ponds after deduction of all expenditure. Study revealed that ponds infested with water hyacinth could be conmercia 11y exploited for food-fishculture which will also generate employment opportunities. At the same time it will help in the control of mosquitoes and prevent transmission of diseases. Raised money could be used in promoting overall development including environmental improvement.
