Studies on the Competition of Lambsquarters (Chenopodium album L.) with Barley (Hordeum vulgare L.)1

Lambsquarters (Chenopodium album L.) infestation in barley (Hardium Vulgare L.) significantly reduced dry weight and nitrogin content in barley. Weed seeded with crop reduced the dry weight and maximum competition was exhibited at 50 days after sowing whereas at 80 days stage weeds seeded 2 weeks later were also equally competitive. Highest reduction in N content of crop was at 80 days after sowing when weed seeds were seeded with crop. The competition of N was obtained upto 80 days after sowing while in case of P, K. Ca and S it was upto 30 days after sowing. Weed densities affected N uptake by barley at ail the stages but K at early and P, Ca and Mg uptake was affected at later stages of growth.
