Effect of Herbicides on Weed Control Efficiency and Production Potential of American Cotton (Gossypium hirsuium L)
Abstract
Field experiments were carried out at Punjab Agricultural University Cotton Research Station, Muktsar during kharif 1984 and 1985. A seed cotton yield of 2140 kg/ha was obtained under hand weedings (2-hoeing) which was closely followed by alachlor 2.5 kg/ha + interculture (2112 kg/ha) and diuron 1.0 kg/ha (2105 kg/ha) which registered higher weed control efficiency in the order of 63.6, 60.2 and 60.3 per cent, respectively. Diuron 1.0 kg/ha and alachlor 2.5 kg/ha*+interculture proved more economical than two hoeings. Tank mix application of pen-dimethalin4-diuron though, proved superior to unweeded treatment with respect to weed control efficiency and increase in seed cotton yield but failed to equate with two hand weedings.
