Abstract

A field study was conducted on a loamy sand soil, at Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana during 1987 and 1988, to identify effective herbicides (gainst wrinkle grass in transplanted ric. Oxyfluorfen (0.3 and (.5 kg/ha), anilofos (0.4 and 0.5 kg/ha), piperophos (0.75 kg/ha), pendiniethalin (1.5 kg/ha) a id oxadiazon (0.75 kg/ha) proved effective against wrinkle grass in transplanted paddy and resulted in significantly higher yield than butachlor at 1.5 kg/ha and hand weeding twice. Butac llor and thiobencarb at 1.5 kg/ha gave only partial control of wrinkle grass, but at 2.0 kg/ha these herbicides gave good control of the weed. However, butachlor 2.0 kg/ha, piperophos 1 0 kg/ha, oxadiazon 0.75 kg/ha and oxyfluorfen 0.5 kg/ha showed slight toxicity to the crop d jring the initial stages of growth but the crop recovered in due course of time.
