Abstract

Herbicide mixtures such as diphenamide 4kg+alachJor 1 kg/ha, diphenamide 4 kg+chloramben 1 kg'ha, diphenamide4 kg+fluchloralin I kg/ha aud diphenamide alone at 6 kg/ha were found to be-effective in controlling weeds when applied as preplant incorporation followed by one hoeing operation at 45 days after planting. These herbicide mixtures resulted in increased flue-cured Virginia (f.c-v.) tobacco yields which were comparable to hand weeded check. The reduction in tobacco yield due to uncontrolled weeds wrs 79 4 per cent. Herbicide mixtures at lower concentrations offered a wider spectrum of weed contjol than single herbicide at higher doses.
