Studies were conducted during 1987, 1988 and 1989 to evaluate the efficacy of various herbicides to control weeds in Ber orchard. The herbiicides viz. diuron 3, 4 and 5 kg/ha, atrazine, simazine 4, 5 and 6 kg/ha wers applied at pre emergence stage (1st week of August), whereas glyphosate and paraquat 3, 4, and 5 1/ha were applied at post-emerqence stage (3rd week of August). Diuron at all rates and glyphosate 4 and 5 1/ha significantly reduced the weed population after 120 days of spray as compared to all the other treatments. The yield was highest under the treatment when: glyphosate was applied at the rate of 5 1/ha. However, the quality of the fruit was better under glyphosate 4 1/ha. Glyphosate 4 1/ha and diuron 4 kg/ha were the most economical treatments.
