Abstract

Field trails were conducted during two crop seasons in kharif 1985 and 1986 at Indira Gandhi Krishi Vishwa Vidyalaya Raipur. M.P. to study the crop-weed competition for major nutrients in direct sown rice under upland condition. The treatments comprised of three methods of seeding (broadcasting, drilling and line sowing) and four weed control practices. The results indicated that, in order to increase grain yield of rice and minimise the weed biomass, sowing through seeddrill or behind plough furrow line and weed control through two hand weedings 30 and 50 d.a.s. was found to be best. The nutrient loss to the tune of 86.5, 12.4 and 134.5 kg N, P and K/ha. respectively, was observed under weedy check and reduced to 4.7, 0.7 and 6.9 kg N, P and K/ha respectively under two hand weeding.
