Competitive Ability of Wrinkle Grass (Ischaemum rugosum Salisb.) for Utilization of Major Nutrients (NPK) in Transplanted Paddy

Abstract

Nutrient mining ability of Wrinkle grass in transplanted naddy revealed that during season long competition wrinkle grass removed 74 kg N, 6 kg P and 108 kg K/ha as compared to 60 kg N, 5 kg P and 92 kg K/ha by paddy. Whereas under weed free situations paddy removed 174 kg N, 14 kg P and 238 kg K/ha. Weed free period for the first 40 to 70 days allowed no loss of nutrients. Nutrients uptake increased as the intensities of wrinkle grass increased from 20 to 140 plants/m2 and an intensity of 140 plants/m2 in paddy removed 63 kg N, 6 kg P aod 104kg K/ha. Anilofos (0.4 and 0.5 kg/ha), oxyfluorfen (0.3 and 0.5 kg/ha), piperophos (0.75 and 1.0 kg/ha). pendimethaJin (1.5 kg/ha) and oxadiazon (0.75 kg/ha) proved effective weed killer and allowed no loss of nutrients, whereas, butachlor (l.5 kg/ha) allowed 10. 1 and 13 kg/ha of N, P and K, respectively, by wrinkle grass.
