Two years field study was conducted at Indian Institute of Sugarcane Research Lucknow during 1988–89 and 1989–90 to study the effect of herbicides on weeds and sugarcane field, Uncontrolled growth of weeds reduced the sugarcano yield by 38 per cent in comparison to to manual hoeing, Pre-emergence application of atrazine (2.0 kg/ha) followed by post-emergence spray of 2, 4-D (1.5 kg/h) effectively Controlled the weeds and resulted in 29 per cent increase in sugarcane fields than weedy chech.
