Effect of Cultural Manipulations and Weed Control Methods on Crop-Weed Competition in Wheat (Triticum aestivum L.)

Abstract

A field experiment conducted during rabi 1988–89 and 1989–90 at Himachal Pradesh Krishi Vishvavidyalaya, Palampur showed that bidirectional row orientation and 15 cm row spacing at 120 kg/ha seed rate reduced the crop-weed competition by reducing the population and dry matter accumulation by weeds and increased the wheat grain yield. Among weed weed control treatments isoproturon 1.5 kg/ha gave significaotly highest yield but isoproturon 0.75 kg/ha and hand weeding twico being statistically at par were the next best. Interaction of bidirectional row orientation, 15 cm or 20 cm row spacing and isoproturon maximised the grain yield numerically.
