A field experiment conducted during Kharif 1986 and 1987 at the farm of C.C.S. Haryana Agricultural University, Rice Research Station, Kaul for chemical weed control in rice nursery showed that application of butachlor gave adequate weed control (more than 70%) but 24–25% injury to rice seedlings. Thiobencarb gave 15% crop injury but weed control was inadequate. Pendimethalin at 0.75 and 1.0 kg/ha provided effective weed control (more than 75%) and was safer to rice seedlings with only 11% crop injury.
