Field studies were carried out at Himachal Pradesh Krishi Vishavidalaya, Palampur during 1989–90 and 1990–91 in direct sown puddled rice-wheat cropping system to find out the effective weed management practice for the system vis-a-vis to study the influence of practices followed in one crop on the weed flora of suceeding crops. Anilofos 0.60 kg applied 5 or 10 days after sowing as well as oxadiazon 0.50 kg, butachlor 1.0 kg, pretilachlor 0.75 kg, anilofos 0.45 kg (5 days after sowing) were found equally effective in suppressing weed growth in rice and increasing its yield. Weed control treatments applied in rice had no effect on weeds or the crop performance in succeeding wheat crop. For wheat isoproturon 1.5 kg/ha proved effective in controlling weeds and yielding equal to that of two hand weeding applied 30 and 60 days after sowing.
