Abstract

Field experiments were conducted on spring planted sugarcane at U. P. Council of Sugarcane Research Farm, Shahjhan pur during 1991–92 and 1992–93. Results revealed that three manual hoeing weedings led to more weed reduction followed by one hoeing & weeding after germination + trash mulch 3.5 t/ha, metribuzin 1.0 kg/ha pre-emergence + trash mulch at 4.5 DAP and metribuzin 1.0 kg/ha pre-emergence + hoeing & weeding at 60 DAP, respectively. Cane yield of 59.14 and 62.27 t/ha was the highest under three hoeing & weeding treatments, respectively. Among integrated approaches, treatments like one hoeing & weeding after germination + trash mulch 3.5 t/ha and metribuzin 1.0 kg/ha pre-emergence + hoeing & weeding at 60 DAP increased cane yield by 42.54, 44.67 and 39.57 and 43.51 per cent over weed infested treatment during first and second year, respectively. Different treatments had no marked effect on quality parameters of sugarcane.
