Abstract

Field investigations were carried out to assess the performance of atrazine applied post-emergence in winter maize during 1990–91 and 1991–92 in clay loam soil at CCS Haryana Agricultural University Regional Research Station, Karnal. Spray treatment of atrazine at 0.75 kg/ha applied pre-emergence or 30 days after sowing (DAS) produced similar dry weight of weeds which was significantly less than the treatments of atrazine applied 50 DAS. Spray method of atrazine applied 30 DAS proved significantly better than sand mixing. The grain yield of maize following the treatments of atrazioe at 0.75 kg/ha applied pre-emergence and 30 DAS was at par. Atrazine at 0.75 kg/ha applied pre-emergence produced 4952 and 5292 kg/ha as compared to 1831 and 1614 kg/ha grain yield of maize in the weedy check during 1990–91 and 1991–92, respectively.
