Efficacy of Naproanilide, Bentazone and Metsulfuron against Caesulia axillaris Roxb. in Transplanted Rice

Abstract

To identify effective herbicides against Caesulia axillaris Roxb. in transplanted rice, field studies were carried out at Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana during 1992 and 1993. Post-emergence application of naproanilide (1.5 and 2.0 kg/ha), bentazone (1.5 and 2.0 kg/ha) and metsulfuron (0.010 and 0.012 kg/ha) at 10 and 20 days after transplanting (DAT) gave effective weed kill and provided better herbicide efficiency index and grain yield. Anilofos (0.4 kg) and butachlor (1.5 kg/ha) proved ineffective against Caesulia. Higher dose of naproanilide (2.0 kg), metsulfuron (0.012 kg) and bentazone (2.0 kg/ha) gave slight suppression to the crop during initial stages but the crop recovered in due course of time.
