Abstract

Field studies were conducted at Punjab Agricultural University. Ludhiana during 1992 and 1993 to work out the critical period of competition between Caesulia axillaris Roxb. and transplanted rice. Continuous infestation of C. axillaris in ricecaused33 percent reduction in grain yield. The initial period of 40–70 days after transplanting was found to be critical period of competition between C. axillaris and transplanted rice. Weed free period for 30 days only during the initial crop growth stage proved insufficient in eliminating weed competition.
