Abstract

Grasses (59%), sedges (7%) and non-grassy weeds (34%) infested the wheat crop. Recommended dose of NPK (100-50-50 kg/ha) due to its more efficient use by the crop resulted in better smothering of weed population. Lower levels of NPK (50%) significantly reduced the dry matter of weeds. Pre-emergence application of metoxuron at 1.5kg/ha was effective in controlling the weeds and caused substantial improvement in plant growth and grain yield of wheat (3225 kg/ha). The combined influence of 100% NPK, narrower spacing (15 em) and metoxuron use could produce highest grain yield of 3757 kg/ha and highest benefit cost ratio.
