Abstract

Allelopathic effects of Blumea lacera L. on wheat were investigated. Root, stem, leaf and stem+leaf of B. lacera L. were allowed to decay for 120, 168, 216 and 264 h as per treatment in normal water in the ratio of 1: 10 w/v of plant material and water, respectively. At 3 days after sowing (DAS), root extract of 120 h hastened the germination, whereas at 11 DAS, stem extract of 120 h resulted in maximum germination. At 3, 5, 7 and 9 DAS, stem+leafextract of 120 h and at 11 DAS, leaf ex1ract of 264 h lowered the germination to the minimum. Aerial portion of weed was found to be more potent in reducing the root and shoot length and dry weight of wheat. Stem+leaf ex1ract of 120 h produced maximum shoot elongation, whereas root extract of 168 h resulted in maximum root elongation.
