Varietal Performance under Different Weed Control Methods in Transplanted Rice

Abstract

Field experiments were conducted during wet seasons (kharif) of 1992 and 1993 to evaluate the performance of 12 selected medium duration cultivars/varieties of rice viz., IET 9815, IET 9818, IET 9819, IET 9693, IET 9694, IET 9979, IET 9982, IET 9975, IET 10261, IET 11161, IET 11162 and IR 64 in terms of growth and grain yield under four methods of weed control (butachlor 5 G at 1.5 kg/ha, benthiocarb 10G at 1.5 kg/ha, hand weeded twice at 20 and 40 days after transplanting and non-weeded control) at Rajendranagar, Hyderabad (A. P.). Herbicides performed effectively in control of weeds and recorded grain yields at par with hand weeding and all weed control treatments were significantly superior to non-weeded control. Varieties did not differ for their weed dry weight, while differences were significant for grain yields. Mean maximum grain yield of 40.3 q/ha was recorded under IET 9976 and IR 64 followed by IET 9683, IET 9815 and IET 9694, while the lowest grain yield of 34.4 q/ha was recorded by IET 9818.
