A field experiment was conducted at the Research Farm, Institute of Agricultural Sciences, B. H. 0., Varanasi during wet seasons of 1995 and 1996 to study the effect of weed management practices under various crop establishment systems in medium deepwater rice ecosystem. Results indicated that the bunching (seeding in cluster) and line seeding systems of crop establishment recorded lower weed infestation and higher crop yield than the broadcasting one. Use of anilofos 0.6 and butachlor 1.5 kg/ha in combination with 0.5 kg/ha 2,4-D or alone were effective under various crop establishments in controlling the weeds during pre-flooding environments of medium deep-waterlogged rice ecosystem. In order to increase yield of rainfed lowland rice and minimize the weed infestation, crop establishment by bunching/line seeding and two hand weedings at 30 and 50 days after sowing (DAS) or application of anilofos 0.6 kglbutachlor 1.5 kg+2,4-D 0.5 kg/ha were found to be the best.
