Abstract

Afield experiment was conducted during 1993, 1994 and 1995 at Agronomy Farm. Rajasthan College of Agriculture, Udaipur to find out an effective weed management practice for sugarcane + mustard intercropping system. Among different levels of herbicides, pre-emergence application of oxyfluorfen 0.23 kg/ha gave effective control of weeds and higher yield during three years of experimentation. On three years' mean basis, minimum number of weeds and weeds dry matter at 50 days after sowing (DAS) (9.6 weeds/m2 and 3.5 q/ha) and at harvest of mustard crop (11.3 weeds/m2 and 3.8 q/ha) were recorded with aforesaid level of herbicide. The highest cane yield (86.9 t/ha), mustard yield (15.8 q/ha) and cane equivalent yield (115.8 t/ha) were recorded with application of oxyfluorfen 0.23 kg/ha. However, farmers' practice proved its superiority over aforesaid herbicidal treatment.
