Abstract

A field experiment was conducted in the rabi season during 1991 and 1992 at the research farm of Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi. Increase in planting density of rajmash from 2 to 5 lakh plants/ha reduced the number and dry weight of weeds/m2 and significantly increased the grain yield/ha by 56% in 1991 and 38% in 1992. Pendimethalin 1 kg and oxyflourfen 0.2 kg/ha were superior to fluchloralin and alachlor 1 kg/ha. They reduced the. number of broad leaved weeds. grasses and total weeds/m2 significantly better than the latter herbicides. The reduction in dry weight of weeds/m2 and increase in grain yield/ha of raj mash was also significant.
