Chemical Weed Control in Lentil (Lens culinaris)

Abstract

Field experiment were conducted during the rabi seasons of 1994–95 and 1995–96 at G.B.P.U.A. & T. Research Station. Bulandshahr. Highest yield was obtained when pendimethalin (1.5 kg/ha) was applied as pre-emergence (one day after sowing) and it increased on an average 112 and 28% grain yield over weedy check and hand weeding done at 30 and 60 days after sowing, respectively. Chenopodium album, Melilotus alba and Solanum nigram common weeds in lentil field were reduced effectively due to application of pendimethalin (1.5 kg/ha). Both chemical and manual weed control measures gave the highest weed control efficiency. Among the herbicides, weed control efficiency increased with increasing levels of pendimethalin and fluchloralin.
