Influence of Irrigation Scheduling and Weed Control Methods on Weed Growth and Yield of Wheat (Triticum aestivum)

Abstract

A fidd experiment was conducted during winter (rahi) seasons of 1993–94 and 1994–95 to find out the effect of irrigation scheduling and weed control methods on weed growth and yield of wheal. There was significant increase in grain yield with increase in the frequency of irrigation from 0.6 to 0.8 IW/CPE ratio. Further increase in the ratio did not bring significant variation in grain yield. Hand weeding (HW) and chemical weed control (CW) (pre-emergence application of pendimcthalin 1.0 kg/ha) have shown similar performance in increasing grain yield but remained superior to mechanical weeding (WM) and unweeded (UC) treatments. With the increase in the irrigation levels from 0.6 to 1.0 IW/CPE ratio. there was significant increase in population and dry matter of weeds. Both HW and CW treatments werc equally effective in minimizing the population and dry matter production of weeds and were significantly superior to MW and UC treatments.
