Field experiment was conducted for two years (1994–95 and 1995–96) at Agricultural Research Station, Banswara to study the extent of weed problem at graded levels of nitrogen and to find out effective and economically viable system of controlling weeds in winter maize. Maximum weed control efficiency (69.5%) was achieved with post-emergence application (30–35 DAS) of atrazine at 1.0 kg/ha which was statistically on a par with its pre-enlergence application. Mechanically weeded (twice) treatment yielded 44.3% weed control efficiency. Application of atrazine 1.0 kg/ha as post-emergence had an edge in respect of grain yield of maizecompared to its pre-emergence application but both maintained their superiority over 2, 4-D application.
