Severe phytotoxicity due to pendimethalin, fluchloralin and trifluralin each at 10 and 2.0 kg/ha to all the four clusterbean varieties in loamy sand soil was recorded in a field experiment in 1994 at CCSHAU Regional Research Station, Bawal. However, injury to all the varieties was less due to fluchloralin particularly at lower dose. Similarly, root and shoot length of different varieties of clusterbean was found to be significantly reduced following the application of these dinitroanilines in loamy sand soil of village Ludas near Hisar in 1995 in a pot culture study. Whereas no such injury was obtained in sandy loam soil or thc Research Farm, CCSHAU, Hisar. Further in a field investigation carried out at aforesaid Research Farm in 1996, none of the three herbicides adversely affected any of the crop varieties.
