To evaluate various herbicides suitable for weed control in field peas, a field experiment was conducted at Research Farm of CCSHAU, Hisar during rabi seasons of 1995–96 and 1996–97. Chenopodium album followed by Melitolus indica constituted major weed flora. Trifiliralin applied ppi at 0.75 kg/ha or pendimethalin applied pre-emergence at 1.0 kg/ha and supplemented with one hoeing given 40 days after sowing (DAS) effectively controlled both weeds. Linuron applied pre-emergence at 0.75 and 1.0 kg/ha was less effective, while its post-emergence treatment proved phytotoxic to the crop. Maximum seed yield of 2174 and 1436 kg/ha was obtained in weed free plots during 1995–96 and 1996–97, respectively. Two hoeings given 20 and 40 DAS or supplementary treatment of one hoeing alongwith pendimethalin or trifluralin provided almost similar yield obtained with weed free check.
