The results of a field experiment conducted on Vertisol soils of Junagadh (Gujarat) during kharif 1994–95 to 1996–97 revealed that next to the weed free treatment, effective weed control of E. crusgolli was obtained by pendimethalin (pre or post), E. villosus with oxidiazon (post), C. rotundus with oxyfluorfen (pre) and D. arvensis and I. glandulosa with either oxidiazon (pre or post) or fluazifop-p-butyl (post), each herbicide includes one IC & HW. The treatment IC & HW at 20 and 40 DAS recorded lower dry weight of weeds. higher weed control efficiency, lower weed persistence index and higher crop resistance index comparable to weed free treatment. This treatment also gave the highest pod (l066 kg/hal and haulm (2247 kg/ha) yield of spreading groundnut.
