Effect of Soil Solarization on Weed Dynamics in Kharif Groundnut (Arachis hypogaea L.)

Abstract

The highest weed count was recorded by the unweeded check at all the stages. Significant reduction in monocot (88 to 96%). dicot (81 to 94%) and sedge (30 to 40%) weed population due to solarization was noticed at all the stages in treatment transparent polyethylene (TP) 0.050 mm for 45 days. Black polyethylene (BP) for 45 days was not effective in controlling weeds. Pendimethalin was only effective against monocot weeds. Transparent polyethylene 0.050 and 0.075 mm for 45 days recorded significantly higher shelling percentage. oil content, pod yield and haulm yield over control.
