A field experiment was conducted for two consecutive years (1993–94 and 1994–95) at Chandra Shekhar Azad University of Agriculture and Technology, Kanpur in which preemergence application of pendimethalin (0.75 kg/ha) followed by one hand weeding at 40 days after planting and oxyfluorfen (0.07 kg/ha) followed by one hand weeding at 40 days after planting prevented weed competition registering 91 and 74% weed control efficiency with a bulb yield of 16.18 and 16.54 t/ha, respectively, over no weeding and proved at par with manual weedings done thrice. Diclofop methyl (0.94 kg/ha) was found ineffective against Chenopodium album.
