Abstract

Weed management studies were conducted in tomato during rainy seasons of 1994 and 1995 at Phulbani, Orissa. Unchecked growth of weeds reduced fruit yield of tomato by 47%. Fluchloralin 1.0 kg/ha and metolachlor 1.0 kg/ha controlled Celosia argentea L. and Cyperus iria L., respectively, effectively. The combination of both the herbicides tackled both the major problematic weeds during 1995 and reduced total dry weight of weeds at harvest by 93%. Fluchloralin 0.5+anilofos 0.15, fluchloralin 0.5+metolachlor 0.5, fluchloralin 1.0, anilofos 0.3 and metolachlor 1.0 kg/ha in conjuction with raking at 20 days after planting registered average fruit yield of 52.7 q/ha as against 50.5 q in hoeing and weeding alone and 40.2 q in raking alone.
