Abstract

Laboratory and pot culture studies were conducted at CCSHAU, Hisar to determine the effect of moisture stress and seeding depth on germination of Phalaris minor. It showed maximum emergence at 2.5 cm seeding depth and was capable of germinating upto a seeding depth of 10 cm (9.9%). This weed was found more sensitive to moisture stress than wheat and 2.7% seeds of P minor germinated at −6 bars. Whereas in case of wheat, 54.7% germination still recorded even at −10 bars of osmotic potential. Therefore, dry sowing of wheat could increase the competitive advantage to wheat crop.
