Field experiments carried out on Indian mustard (Brasscia juncea) during rabi 1996–97 and 1997–98 revealed that Chenopodium album L. and C. murale L. were dominating weeds (82%). Pre-emergence application of pendimethalin at 0.50 kg/ha or fluchloralin at 0.50 kg/ha each supplemented by one weeding given by Kassi at 30 DAS being equally effective resulted in maximum reduction in population and dry weight of weeds as compared to other treatments. The highest seed yields (18.41 and 17.68 q/ha) were also obtained witp aforesaid treatments in sequence and recorded 52.78 and 46.72% higher over weedy check, respectively. Varieties proved ineffective in reducing population as well as dry weight of weeds. However, maximum seed yield (16.96 q/ha) was obtained with Pusa bold. Integration of pendimethalin and fluchloralin alongwith one traditional weeding provided highest net economic returns.
