Field trials were conducted during kharif seasons of 1994 and 1995 to study the effect of weed control methods on grain yield and economic returns of scented rice variety Pusa Basmati-1. The maximum grain yield (4.28 t/ha) was recorded by weed free treatment followed by hand weeded twice (3.87 t/ha), anilophos.0.6 kg/ha (3.86 t/ha), butachlor 1.5 kg/ha (3.75 t/ha), two equal sequential application of anilophos 0.6 kg/ha (3.72 t/ha) and butachlor 1.5 kg/ha (3.69 t/ha). Lowest grain yield of 2.09 t/ha was recorded in unweeded control. The maximum weed dry weight was recorded in unweeded control which was significantly higher over rest of the weed control treatments. The maximum benefit: cost ratio of 19.66 was recorded under single application of herbicide (anilophos+one hand weeding) in comparison to sequential application of herbicides as well as other weed control treatments.
