Abstract

Field experiment was conducted during rainy seasons of 1996 and 1997 to test the efficiency of herbicides applied alone and tank mix showed that pre-emergence application of acetachlor at 1.5 and 2.0 kg ha−1 provided 70 to 95% control of dominant broadleaf and grassy weeds. Similarly, combinarton of acetachlor and chlorimuron at 750+8 g or 1000+8 g ha−1, respectively, at 20 DAS provided 75 to 95% control of both the types of weeds. Integration of acetachlor or alachlor each at 1.0 kg ha−1 as pre-emergence with one hand weeding at 40 DAS provided excellent control of all weeds. Hence, all the above treatments resulted in crop yield attributes i. e. branches and pods per plant and consequently grain yield more or less similar to season-long weed free conditions in both the years. Post-emergence application of staple and chlorimuron alone failed to provide satisfactory control of all the weeds and finally grain yield of soybean.
