Five herbicides, namely, alachlor, butachlor, 2,4-D, oxyfluorfen and pendimethaIin were tested at 1, 5, 10 and 20 ppm concentrations for their in vitro influence on the growth, sporulation and cellulase production by Trichoderma harzianum. Among the herbicides, alachlor was found to be relatively less toxic at lower concentrations. However, all the herbicides significantly reduced the sporulating and cellulase producing ability of the organism, especially at higher concentrations.
