Rate and Time of Application of Chlorsulfuron for Broadleaf Control in Wheat

Abstract

Field experiment conducted during winter seasons of 1997–98 and 1998–99 revealed that dominant broadleaf weeds i. e. Chenopodium album, Convolvulus arvensis, Circium arvense, Rumex retroflex and Melilotus sp. were effectively controlled (90–98%) with chlorsulfuron 30 g ha−1 applied pre-emergence. 20 or 30 DAS. Tank mixture of chlorsulfuron with isoproturon at 20+750 g and isoproturon+metsulfuron 750+4 g ha−1 provided satisfactory control of the broadleaf and grassy weeds. Chlorsulfuron alone did not provide satisfactory control of grassy weeds. Above treatments provided crop grain yield statistically similar to season long weed free yield during both the seasons. The efficacy of chlorsulfuron was better at 30 g than at 20 or 15 g ha−1 and when applied 20 DAS than 30 DAS or pre-emergence.
